About Us

150th Anniversary Information:

2026 is our 150th Anniversary year. To celebrate, we will have a special liturgy on Sunday, March 15th at 9am. Presiding will be Bishop Timothy Graham. There will be special music and a catered dinner following the service in the St. Paul Room. Due to the dinner being held downstairs, there will be a seating capacity of 120 people.   Reservations for the dinner will be required and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Once we reach 120 people, no more reservations will be accepted. There will be no charge for the dinner.  Reservation forms will be printed in February's bulletins and can be filled out and placed in the offering plate. This is our preferred method of making a reservation. However, if you are unable to attend a service in February and would like to reserve a seat for the dinner, please email the church with your name and how many seats you would like reserved.   St Paul Lutheran Church Office email: churchsecretary@stpaulmichigancity.com  We look forward to celebrating with you!

In March of 1876, out of a desire to worship as they had in their native Germany and to educate their children in the Lutheran faith, a group of 125 men and their families voted to begin St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City, IN. They immediately began St. Paul Lutheran School for 1st through 8th grades. With an amazing amount of dedication and sacrifice of time and resources,

St. Paul Lutheran Church was built by December of that same year.

Lutherans are one branch of the protestant faith founded by Martin Luther in Germany in the Sixteenth Century. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was formed over 20 years ago. This new church was formed from three separate and well-established North American church bodies: The American Lutheran Church, The Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches, and the Lutheran Church in America. Beginning January 1, 1988, these churches, with shared beliefs and missions, officially formed the ELCA. Two decades later, this energized church is composed of 4.8 million members and nearly 10,500 congregations across the U.S. and Caribbean. Today, the ELCA reflects the rich and diverse heritage of the people it serves. For more information on the ELCA, visit their website at  Home - Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (elca.org)
